The second phase has a low blood sugar such as salad vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus and spinach.

The third category of berries and avocado. The fruit must be used on an occasional basis after the initial phases of the Atkins diet. Vegetable and seed oils, cheese, dairy, nuts and legumes are used sparingly and in portions. While the FDA pyramid has oils and fats in the top edge, the Atkins pyramid places whole grain foods in this place. The whole grain foods should be used sparingly and not to the main axis of the Atkins diet.
